I am with Douglas. I am personally feeling a mixture of deep grief, outrage, anger and despair.
My mum passed away just last week and I am only glad that she was not too aware of what had happened to her place of birth, and mine, London. She and my dad, who passed away in 2006 (before the madness had escalated ) were born into poverty 1927 & 1931 and lived through The Blitz World war 2. Air raids and hiding in the bomb shelters , often down the tube stations, were part of life and my mum told me how, as a young girl she and her parents and two sisters returned one morning after a raid to find their house, and the rest of the East End terrace had been reduced to rubble. They lost all their possessions, which were few and had to beg old clothes from the Salvation army. A few weeks later they were rehoused, only to have it all happen again.
She told me how upset her dad, a proud docker, was at having to wear a lady's coat that winter as that was all that was available at the shelter. (Oh how things have changed!) Anyway, he went on to suffer from being gassed when working as a volunteer to free people from bombed buildings through the nights and struggled for the rest of his life.
My mum and her whole family were of course severely traumatised by it all but, as they did in those days they soldiered on and never complained. Neither of them ever claimed benefits or 'bludged' as they would say and it was also considered shameful to do so. Instead they went without and soldiered on, my dad a skilled cabinet maker/carpenter and my mum stayed home to care for us doing trouser machining at home when we were at school. They instilled in us a sense of respect for everything and a deep gratitude to our grandparents and their parents and for all those who had sacrificed so much in order for us to be free to live and thrive.
They would be heartbroken to see what has been happening on the streets of London and elsewhere and to
see the desecration of monuments and hear the utter disrespect for their home and the Judeo Christian values which have been our foundations and still are. We cannot let this invasion and trashing of our lives and all that we hold dear continue. We owe it to those who fought and died and I owe it to my parents and theirs not to give in to this insulant, arrogant, intolerant ideology and all the hate that it is built on. We must stand strong and demand action to stop this and restore our civilisation while we still can.
Thanks to Douglas for being a much needed voice of fearless courage and truth and to KK & FF for continuing to go where others fear to tread. Much love to all and thanks for listening. xxx
